The faculty members of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism are
committed to educating future leaders in the specialty of endocrinology, diabetes
and metabolism.
Our faculty members provide expert consultative services and standards of care clinical
management of diverse endocrine/metabolic disorders for a referral base of nealry
2 million people in the mid-South region. Included among our faculty are nationally
and internationally recognized Clinician-Educators and Physician-Scientists with outstanding
accomplishments in medical education, basic and clinical research, and community service.
The extensive scope of our faculty's research interests straddles the spectrum from
molecular genetics and OMICs sciences to cutting-edge clinical investigation in the
areas of diabetes, obesity, and endocrine/metabolic disorders.
The UTHSC Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism has been a participating
site for major landmark NIH-funded studies, including the Diabetes Control and Complications
Tial/Epidemiology of Diabetes Interventions and Compications (DCCT/EDIC), the Diabetes
Prevention Program/Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study (DPP/DPPOS), the LookAHEAD
trial and the Pathobiology of Prediabetes in A Biracial Cohort (POP-ABC) study.
The division is active in educational programs and mentorship activities at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels across state-wide UTHSC academic programs. Locally, regionally, and nationally, our faculty members play leadership roles in organizations, such as the Memphis Endocrine Club, the Southern Society of Clinical Investigation, the Southern Society of Endocrinology, the American Diabetes Association, Endocrine Society, American College of Physicians, and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
