The University of Tennessee Health Science Center is a critical health care partner in the Memphis community, the Mid-South, and beyond.
We educate the state’s health care workforce, primarily right here in Memphis. We are integral to patient care through our partnerships with the medical community in Memphis and across the state. Additionally, we play a significant role in the future of our city and state as a major center for biotechnology and biomedical research.
Partner in Patient Care
UT Health Science Center plays a key role as a partner in patient care, not only in Memphis, but throughout Tennessee.
Our faculty members help staff nearly every hospital in Memphis, as well as several major medical centers across the state.
Our medical students and residents, along with nursing and pharmacy students, work and are trained in hospitals under the direction of experienced attending physicians and health care professionals.
We have more than 100 clinical centers and teaching sites located throughout Tennessee, touching thousands across the state and the region every day.

- Staff nearly all of Methodist University Hospital and the Memphis VA Medical Center in Memphis
- Are among staff of the Semmes-Murphey Neurosurgical Clinic and the Campbell Orthopedic Clinic in Memphis
- Are among the physicians and scientists at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis
- Operate in partnership with Methodist University Hospital the Mid-South's only abdominal transplant program, which is one of the top 10 in the country
- Staff Regional One Health's nationally recognized Level 1 trauma center (among the top five in the country)
- Staff Level 1 trauma centers at the UT Medical Center in Knoxville and the Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga
