UTHSC Rheumatology hosts conference on “Contemporary Issues in Comorbid Conditions of Rheumatoid Arthritis”

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center Division of Rheumatology hosted a daylong symposium (May 13, 2016) on comorbid conditions seen in patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). The symposium focused on key clinical topics in the diagnosis and management of comorbid conditions such as cardiovascular disease, infections and malignancies, etc. This conference was primarily designed for primary care providers, rheumatologists, and other subspecialists involved in the care of RA patients. This conference was sponsored by a teaching grant from Pfizer awarded to Dr. Debendra Pattanaik.

New Faculty Member Syed Raza, MD

The Division of Connective Tissue Diseases (Rheumatology) is proud to announce that Dr. Syed H. Raza, a previous fellow in our division (2008-2010), is now an Assistant Professor in the Division. Dr. Raza first completed his medical residencies in Internal Medicine, Neurology, and Cardiology at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and King Edward Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan before completion of his residency in Internal Medicine and then Fellowship in Rheumatology at UT.

Dr. Seunghyun Kim Named Assistant Professor

The Division of Rheumatology is proud to announce that Dr. Seunghyun Kim, who just completed her fellowship, is now an Assistant Professor in our division.

As a Rheumatology fellow in 2014, Dr. Kim was one of the recipients of the of the Henry Christian Award from the American Federation for Medical Research. This prestigious award is given to a trainee selected by a panel of peer reviewers from scientific research papers presented at the annual scientific meeting of the American Federation for Medical Research, March 2014.

Professor Andrew Kang, MD, Receives $1.65 Million Grant for Rheumatoid Arthritis Research

Dr. Andrew Kang sitting at a deskAndrew Kang, MD, professor in the Division of Connective Tissue Diseases in the College of Medicine, has received a grant totaling $1,650,000 from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, an Institute of the National Institutes of Health. The award will be used to support a project titled “20 (OH) Vit D3, T Cells, and Arthritis.” The award will be distributed over a five-year period. Read More
