Dr. Allen Dupont serves as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Institutional Effectiveness and Decision Support and SACSCOC Accreditation Liaison in the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.  In this role, he assists in securing and maintaining accreditation of the institution and its programs, coordinates campus-wide planning and assessment efforts, assists with the development of new programs to ensure continuing compliance with THEC and SACSCOC policies and standards, oversees data collection and analysis to monitor the institution’s progress in achieving its mission, and carries out institution-wide surveys of faculty members and students.

He joined UTHSC in July 2012.  Previously, he was Director of Assessment for Undergraduate Academic Programs and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Economics at North Carolina State University.  He began his academic career as W. O. Duvall Professor of Business and Director of Institutional Research, Planning, and Assessment at Young Harris College.

Dr. Dupont holds a Ph.D. and a Master of Science in Economics from Louisiana State University.  He earned the Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Rice University.

Sharon A. Valente, PhD
Director of Institutional Effectiveness

Dr. Sharon Valente serves as Director of Institutional Effectiveness. In this role, she is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of the institutional effectiveness efforts for academic and administrative units at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She works closely with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Institutional Effectiveness and Decision Support to manage regional and specialized accreditation activities, to support the institution’s strategic planning process, and to coordinate reporting to the University of Tennessee System and the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.

She joined UTHSC in October 2023. Previously, she was the Assistant Director of Curriculum Assessment and Evaluation and Associate Professor for the Master In Physician Assistant Studies Program in the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University.

Dr. Valente holds a Ph.D. from the University of Akron, a M.B.A. from Seattle University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Cleveland State University.
