Aging and Auditory Electrophysiology Laboratory

Directed by Bruna Mussoi, AuD, PhD

The Aging and Auditory Electrophysiology Laboratory is housed at the UT Conference Center. Our goal is to study the factors leading to declines in speech understanding as people age. We are also interested in the factors that impact speech understanding with cochlear implants. The laboratory uses electrophysiological and behavioral methods to address the relative contributions of peripheral, central and cognitive mechanisms to speech perception abilities.

  • Auditory neuroplasticity following experience with cochlear implants
  • Relationship between different types of auditory electrophysiological responses and speech perception abilities
  • Age-related changes in auditory electrophysiological responses
  • Contributions of behavioral and electrophysiological measures of spectro-temporal processing to speech perception

Please e-mail the laboratory at hearlab@uthsc.edu if you would like to participate in our studies.

Volunteering in the Aging and Auditory Electrophysiology Laboratory can provide a valuable experience with research and clinically relevant issues in the field of Audiology. Volunteers may assist with study setup, participant recruitment, data collection, and data analysis. If you are interested in volunteering in the Aging and Auditory Electrophysiology Laboratory, please contact Dr. Mussoi at bmussoi@uthsc.edu.
