James H. Horner was a medical student who died shortly before his expected graduation from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.  His medical degree was awarded posthumously in June 1988.  Dr. Horner’s family established this distinguished professorship in his name “to promote education, compassion, and academic excellence in the practice of medicine”.  

Join us as we welcome expert speakers who will share their knowledge on GLP-1s and Cardiometabolic Health, as well as provide relevant guidelines for the prevention of diabetes and resources for the management of obesity and related disorders.

 Objectives:

  • Identify the pathophysiology of diabetes and the role obesity in glucose dysregulation and cardiometabolic disorders
  • Review the cardiometabolic and mental health implications of weight cycling
  • Discuss current guidelines for diabetes management and lifestyle strategies for the prevention of diabetes and optimization of cardiometabolic health
  • Describe appropriate drugs and therapy for the management of obesity and related disorders

The UT Health Sciences Department of Neurology is hosting a one-day stroke symposium.  The symposium is aimed at improving treatment for patients through the dissemination of knowledge and resources used to provide care for neurologically impaired individuals.  The symposium’s format will consist of lectures, question and answer sessions, and a multidisciplinary panel discussion.  Topics will be focused on a wide range of information related to current trends for optimal care and best practice strategies for patients who have suffered a stroke.

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology is hosting a one-day symposium on the management of soft tissue sarcoma. The purpose of this activity is to educate healthcare professionals on up-to-date strategies for the evaluation and management of patients with these tumors. The symposium will provide a unique opportunity for clinicians involved in the care of these patients to learn from and interact with leading national and local faculty to increase clinical knowledge, apply new data into practice, and ultimately improve patient outcomes.
