Copilot Faculty Spotlight – Michael Weitzeil, MHS, PA (ASCP)
In this Faculty Spotlight, we’re showcasing how this Dr. Michael Weirzeil is embracing Copilot to streamline his workflow and enhance the learning experience. By leaning on AI for drafting materials, refining explanations, and saving time on routine tasks, he’s able to focus more on teaching, mentoring, and creative work that directly benefits his students.

UTHSC College of Health Professions faculty member Michael Weitzeil, MHS, PA (ASCP), Director of the Pathologists’ Assistant Program, is passionate about the benefits that AI tools offer. His enthusiasm for leveraging instruction and coordination with the use of Microsoft Copilot is evident in the following cases:
- Generation of learning objectives for my lectures. As a new program, we have had to write dozens of lectures over the past few years. Writing learning objectives that meet accreditation standards is laborious and challenging. Uploading a lecture into Copilot and asking it to write learning objectives with Bloom’s Taxonomy action verbs that mirror the three levels of learning for that lecture has been an incredibly efficient use of my time.
- I have found Copilot incredibly useful for the generation of emails to students and colleagues, especially when the topics are sensitive or when clarity is essential; of course, I use the generated emails as templates, which I build off of. The amount of time saved using AI in this capacity has made me more efficient at completing time-consuming responsibilities.
