Regional One Health
The otolaryngology service at Regional One Health encompasses all aspects of the specialty, including the facial trauma service. The weekly schedule is comprised of multiple half-days of clinic, a procedure clinic day, and multiple half- or full days in the OR. The PGY-3 resident has a high degree of autonomy managing this service, but is supported by the PGY-4 resident who is on the Facial Plastics rotation.
VA Medical Center
This service consists of two residents (PGY-2 and PGY-5), providing a great overall experience for the junior and a high level of surgical and clinical autonomy to the senior resident. The PGY-3 resident assigned to their Research rotation also assists with select outpatient clinic responsibilities. The VA service covers all aspects of Otolaryngology.
Residents operate in the mornings and participate in outpatient clinic in the afternoons.
Methodist University Hospital
The Methodist service, consisting of a multi-resident team (PGY-2, PGY-4, and PGY-5), is a general otolaryngology service with a focus on Head & Neck Oncology. The majority of our free flap and reconstructive cases are performed at this hospital. The residents maintain the inpatient service, participate in weekly outpatient clinics, and handle ER and inpatient consults.
Baptist Memorial Hospital
This rotation occurs in a suburban hospital setting and is comprised of a PGY-2 and PGY-5 team. The service covers all aspects of otolaryngology, with a focus on Sleep Surgery, Laryngology, and Head & Neck Oncology. Residents operate multiple days in the week and participate in outpatient clinics.
Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
The experience between Le Bonheur and St. Jude is broad. Training encompasses the more fundamental aspects of Pediatric Otolaryngology, to advanced management of pediatric airway issues, congenital anomalies, head and neck cancer, pediatric facial trauma, and sinonasal disorders. This team is comprised of a PGY-2 and PGY-4 resident. The residents also work with the Pediatric Otolaryngology fellow to take care of patients on the floors and in the pediatric and neonatal ICUs.
Otology
This is a dedicated rotation for residents to cover both adult and pediatric Neurotology and Lateral Skull Base Surgery. The assigned residents spend time in clinic and in the operating room at Le Bonheur, Baptist, and Methodist hospitals. Multidisciplinary cases provide the residents to work with the Neurosurgical and Head & Neck teams.
Rhinology
This is a dedicated rotation for the PGY-4 resident and provides a one-on-one experience with our Rhinology and Endoscopic Skull Base faculty. The resident participates in weekly clinics and multiple days in the operating room at Le Bonheur, Baptist, and Methodist hospitals. The resident has the opportunity to be involved in multidisciplinary cases with the Neurosurgical and Head & Neck teams.
Facial Plastics
This is a dedicated rotation for the PGY-4 resident and provides one-on-one time with our fellowship-trained faculty. The resident spends an approximately equal amount of time in clinic and the operating room, focusing on cosmetic facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, which provides exposure to the full spectrum of the subspecialty. The PGY-4 resident also assists with PGY-3 resident at Regional One Health with complex cases.
