Methodist University Hospital (MUH) is a 617-bed facility and the principal adult
private teaching hospital for UT Health Science Center. Methodist University Hospital provides real-world experiences in managing medical
problems in an efficient and effective institution. MUH is home to a large solid organ
transplant program specializing in liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantations.
MUH and the UT Health Science Center combine research, medicine, and innovation. This partnership supports multidisciplinary collaboration among doctors and clinical team members, leading to more advanced patient medical care.
Pathology services are provided through the Memphis Pathology Group (MPG) whose members
are also UTHSC faculty. MPG also provides services to the West Cancer Center, a UTHSC and Methodist Healthcare affiliated adult cancer care center. The AP and
CP laboratories at MUH are key rotation sites for our residents and fellows.

Founded in 1922, the Memphis VA Medical Center (VAMC) is affiliated with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and is one of our primary adult teaching hospitals. It offers quality healthcare
for the changing medical, surgical, and quality of life needs of the Mid-South men
and women who so proudly served our nation.
For the 196,000 veterans from 53 counties in western Tennessee, northern Mississippi, and northwest Arkansas, the VAMC offers a variety of services for both physical and mental health needs. New programs include those for traumatic brain injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and suicide prevention.
Pathology services are provided by VA pathologists who hold UTHSC faculty appointments.
The AP and CP laboratories are key rotation sites for our residents and fellows.

Established in 1952, Le Bonheur Children's Hospital is an integral part of the Methodist
Le Bonheur Healthcare system and a teaching affiliate for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. A new $340-million hospital building was built in December 2010 to accommodate the
over 100,000 patients seen each year.
Named one of the nation's "Best Children's Hospitals" by U.S. News & World Report for eight consecutive years, Le Bonheur is the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center in the Mid-South. Its neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) provides the highest level of care for the region's critically ill newborns. Le Bonheur has received many accolades of excellence over the years including: Top Children's Hospital in 2017 by the Leapfrog group for its safe patient care, Magnet status - one of only 7 percent of hospitals in the U.S. to have earned this honor for quality nursing care by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and a three-star rating (the highest) by The Society of Thoracic Surgeons for its Heart Institute.

Baptist Memorial Hospital (BMH) - Memphis is the flagship hospital of the Baptist
Memorial Health Care system and a tertiary care referral center. The 80-acre campus includes the hospital, Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women, Baptist Women’s Health Center, Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital, and Baptist Memorial Restorative Care Hospital, Baptist Heart Institute, and five (5) physicians’ office buildings. The Baptist mission is a three-fold ministry of healing, preaching, and teaching
which is used to provide quality health care.
BMH is one of Tennessee's busiest hospitals with 65,000 emergency department visits
and 12,000 surgeries each year. The hospital physicians are Mid-South transplant pioneers,
performing the first area open heart surgery in 1960 and the first local heart transplant
in 1985. A variety of subspecialty and ambulatory electives are available taught by
volunteer faculty, many of whom have received teaching awards.
Pathology services are provided by the Pathology Group of the Mid South (PGM) at Trumball Laboratories. The AP and CP laboratories are key rotation sites for our residents and fellows,
and the pathologists generously dedicate a portion of their time to teaching UTHSC
residents and fellows.
American Esoteric Laboratories

American Esoteric Laboratory (AEL) is a large regional reference laboratory which is a subsidiary of Sonic Healthcare. AEL offers AP services through a UCH partnership, and an extensive array of reference and esoteric clinical laboratory tests. AEL provides a unique opportunity to observe CP testing in a large volume and comprehensive reference laboratory setting. Pathologists hold UTHSC faculty appointments, and laboratory scientists generously dedicate a portion of their time to teaching.
St. Jude Children's Hospital

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, founded by actor Danny Thomas along with Lemuel
Diggs and Anthony Abraham in 1962, started as a promise to St. Jude Thaddeus, the
patron saint of the hopeless. In return for guidance in his career, Thomas pledged
to build a facility to treat ill children regardless of their race, color, creed,
or their family's ability to pay. St. Jude has become a premier pediatric treatment
and research facility, focusing on children with aggressive cancers. The hospital
treats children from all over the United States as well as 70 other countries throughout
the world. St. Jude research has helped increase the childhood cancer survival rate
from 20% to 80%.
In 2019, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was ranked the number two pediatric cancer hospital by U.S. News & World Report. St. Jude and the World Health Organization recently announced a five-year collaboration to cure at least 60% of children worldwide with the six most common types of cancer by 2030.
UTHSC has a close working relationship with SJCRH, and many associates hold UTHSC faculty appointments. The facility is a very important training site for our residents and fellows, particularly in molecular pathology and senior elective opportunities.
West Tennessee Regional Forensic Center

The West Tennessee Regional Forensic Center operates under an agreement with UTHSC
and works with the Shelby County Medical Examiner's Office to investigate sudden, unexpected and unnatural deaths, and serves as a resource
for improving the public health and safety of the community. The center serves as
a rotation site for residents and sponsors a forensic pathology fellowship.

University Clinical Health (UCH) is a multispecialty practice group comprised of UTHSC faculty. UCH supports the clinical practice group for UTHSC pathology services as well as dermatopathology. In addition to dermatopathology rotations, our residents can also do additional UTHSC-based electives, such as oral pathology through the dental school.
