Department of Radiology
Educational Programs
Our programs are devoted to education at all levels. We have a strong educational environment where our medical students, residents, and fellows, not only learn from our patients, but each other as well.
Medical Student Rotations
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center offers three medical student rotations in general radiology, interventional radiology, and pediatric radiology. Both the general and interventional radiology rotations are 4weeks, while the pediatric radiology rotation is 2 weeks. All rotations are open for third and fourth year medical students at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and outside medical programs.
Diagnostic Radiology Residency
The Diagnostic Radiology residency is an advanced 4year program hosting 6 residents per class. As an advanced program, residents must complete an initial training year in another specialty, typically either preliminary medicine, preliminary surgery, or transitional internship all of which are available at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Resident train throughout the UTHSC system including the Methodist Hospital system, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, Regional One Health, Memphis VA Center, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Fellowship Programs
Fellowship opportunities are available in both Emergency Radiology/Trauma and Pediatric subspecialties. Pediatric fellows rotate through both Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Emergency fellows will learn under faculty in the region’s largest level one trauma hospital, Regional One Health.
Facilities and Faculty
The UTHSC campus is centered in the historically rich downtown Memphis medical district that is also home to the Methodist Hospital system including the Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, Regional One Health, VA Medical Center, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
