Student Behavioral Health

University Health Services Student Health Center assists in meeting the behavioral health needs of UTHSC students by providing psychiatric medication management and counseling services. These services are offered to students with minimal out-of-pocket expense. For appointments and medication management students may call 901.448.5630.

UTHSC students have access to unlimited counseling sessions when seen at University Health Services. Insurance coverage may impact student financial responsibility.

How to Make an Appointment

For information or to schedule an appointment for Behavioral Health Services/Counseling, a full time Counseling Psychologist is available at University Health Services during typical work hours. Medication management is provided by designated Primary Care Providers. To schedule an appointment, please call 901.448.5630. Students will be notified when patient portal scheduling is available.

If you are a student experiencing a counseling/behavioral health emergency after hours or on holidays and weekends, please call the Counseling Services After-hours Emergency number at 901.690.2273 to be connected with a counselor

As a result of Covid-19 and UTHSC policy regarding quarantining, counseling services are currently provided remotely as are some medication management services.

Instructions on the transition to Telecounseling and Telepsychiatry

Prior to your appointment, download the Zoom Application on your laptop or smart device (with a built-in camera). Your clinician will send an email to your UTHSC email address with a link to join the session prior to your session time. Click on the link to join the session.

• If there is an emergency off campus, call 911.
• If you or someone you know needs immediate medical assistance, they should visit the nearest emergency room. The closest emergency room to campus is Regional One Hospital. The address is 877 Jefferson Ave, Memphis, TN 38103 and the phone number is 901.545.7100.
• If you are a student, faculty member, staff, or parent who would like to speak with a CARE Team for guidance with a student concern or crisis, please call the CARE phone at 901.448.CARE. This line is monitored 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Students may go to local hospital emergency rooms for acute assessment and support in emergent, immediate life-threatening situations.
