Course Design Track
The Course Design Track is a 7-month program for instructors interested in learning Backward Design, an evidence-based method for designing effective courses. In this program, participants craft learning outcomes aligned with big picture goals. Based on the learning outcomes, participants then create assessments, curate content and choose appropriate teaching strategies aligned with their learning objectives. Participants complete the Course Design Track with a developed course outline, rough draft of a syllabus and an understanding of how to transfer this design process to additional courses. The program consists of the following components:
- A series of monthly virtual, synchronous workshops on the Backward Design process. In workshops, participants will develop a new course or re-design an existing course.
- Access to print and online resources that relate to the above topics.
- An online forum where members of the cohort can continue discussions about course design and exchange ideas.
- Support for the cohort should any of the members wish to continue meeting after the initial program.
Certificate of Completion
Participants who satisfactorily complete the set of requirements listed below are eligible for a UTHSC Teaching Excellence Course Design Certificate. They will also receive a $500 stipend and the Course Design medallion.
- Attend 6 of the 7 monthly workshops
- Complete all assignments
- Develop and submit a course outline aligned with the principles of Backward Design
Sessions
