Services Offered
Treatment provided in the Advanced Prosthodontics Clinic at the UTHSC College of Dentistry covers the full scope of prosthodontic and restorative dental care. Utilizing the latest technologies in radiographic imaging, diagnostic methods, advanced surgical and restorative techniques, and in-house dental laboratory support, treatment rendered in the Advanced Prosthodontics Clinic is state-of-the-art in every respect. Some of the many services our residents and faculty members provide for their patients include:
- CT diagnostic imaging and three-dimensional computer-based planning
- Pre-treatment head and neck cancer screening
- Complete dentures
- Removable partial dentures
- Crowns or caps (all ceramic, metal-ceramic, and full gold)
- Fixed partial dentures or bridges
- Computer designed and computer manufactured dental restorations
- Comprehensive dental esthetic diagnosis and treatment
- Bleaching and other cosmetic dental procedures
- Esthetic ceramic or porcelain veneers (bonding)
- Restoration of all remaining teeth (complete mouth rehabilitation)
- Surgical dental implant placement and bone grafting
- CT-based computer-guided implant surgery
- Implant supported crowns and bridges
- Implant supported full-arch "fixed" bridges
- Implant support removable dentures
- Management of pre-existing dental implants
- Repair of pre-existing dental implant restorations

We work closely with our colleagues from different dental disciplines (Oral Surgery, Periodontics, Endodontics, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Dental Radiology, and Oral Pathology) to provide optimal comprehensive treatment for patients with challenging dental conditions and problems.

Who is the prosthodontist?
A prosthodontist is a dental specialist who:
- receives three years of additional training after dental school
- specializes in the restoration of damaged teeth and replacement of missing teeth
- restores optimal function to your teeth and optimal appearance to your smile
- manages jaw joint (TMJ) problems and concerns related to facial pain
- provides prosthetic replacements for missing oral, head and/or neck structures related to cancer, trauma, or birth defects
Prosthodontics is one of the nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association. Graduate programs in prosthodontics include classroom lectures and seminars, laboratory and clinical training in esthetics/cosmetics, crowns, bridges, veneers, inlays, complete and removable partial dentures, dental implants, TMD-jaw joint problems, traumatic injuries to the mouth's structures, congenital or birth anomalies to teeth, snoring, sleep disorders, and oral cancer reconstruction and continuing care. Prosthodontists are masters of complete oral rehabilitation.
