Adult Neurology Residency
Program Director’s Welcome Message
Welcome to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center Neurology Residency Program in Memphis, TN!
It is my absolute pleasure, as Program Director, to welcome you to our program. Since its accreditation by the ACGME in 1965, our program has been dedicated to offering exceptional education and well-rounded clinical training. Here, you'll find an environment where collegiality and intellectual curiosity thrive. Our faculty is deeply committed to nurturing this atmosphere, with the ultimate goal of shaping you into an outstanding clinician.
What truly sets our program apart is the strong, supportive relationships we build—between residents, and between residents and faculty. We believe in fostering lifelong academic collaborations and friendships. In fact, more than one-third of our faculty were once residents here, a testament to the lasting bonds and exceptional training this program provides. We are dedicated to not only training but also retaining talented individuals, with three dedicated Associate Program Directors focusing on research, education, and wellness.
As you embark on this journey, you will gain invaluable experience working across a multihospital system that includes Methodist University Hospital, Baptist Memorial, Regional One Health, LeBonheur Children’s, St. Jude, and the VA. Our residents are exposed to a diverse range of cases and subspecialties, from stroke and neurocritical care to endovascular neurology, neuro trauma, neurophysiology, epilepsy, sleep medicine, neuro-oncology, neuro-rehab, neuroinfectious, neuropsychology and neuroradiology. You will also be trained to address healthcare disparities and navigate the complexities of our healthcare system, preparing you for a career in academic medicine, private practice, or further subspecialty-focused fellowship training.
Teaching is another cornerstone of our program. As residents, you will have the opportunity to teach medical students and your fellow residents. To enhance this experience, we provide an asynchronous "Resident as Educator" module for all PGY-2 residents, and those with a passion for teaching can pursue the Master Educator Track during their PGY-3 and PGY-4 years via TLC.
As your Program Director, I want you to know that I am here to support and advocate for you, no matter what career path you choose to follow. Our residents have gone on to become published researchers, esteemed educators, and compassionate clinicians who always put patient care and teamwork at the forefront.
Welcome to our family. I look forward to watching you grow and succeed in this next chapter of your career.
We are committed to your wellbeing. I encourage you to watch the resident testimonials on our website and follow us on Twitter (@uthscneurores) and Instagram (@uthscneurores).
