Methodist Le Bonheur Nurse Scholar Program
This partnership focuses on developing and implementing a Nurse Scholar Program to generate research to advance nursing practice and nursing science. The goals of the program include the following:
- Conduct and advance nursing research to promote quality nursing care and to answer clinical questions with the best available evidence.
- Using the academic partnership, assist Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare (MLH) in meeting the Magnet Program requirement to generate new knowledge through research and clinical innovation.
- Promote the involvement of clinical nurses in research; improve the integration of nursing research into clinical settings.
- Guide the Shared Governance Nursing Research Council.
- Direct scholars’ projects.
Currently, two MLH system-wide studies have been completed, and the results have been shared. The purpose of the first study, New Graduate Nurse Residency Program: Factors Impacting Retention, was to determine if the MLH New Graduate Nurse Residency Program affects the retention rate of new graduate nurses in relation to other variables, such as nursing degree program, area worked and completion of an intern and/or extern program.
The second system-wide research study, Predictors of Uncompleted Emergency Department Care: Patients Who Leave against Medical Advice, has been completed. The purpose of this study was to determine predictors of patients leaving emergency departments (ED) within the MLH system against medical advice (AMA).
Abstracts from both studies were presented at the Tennessee Nurses Association conference in October, 2019, and the manuscripts are underway.
