Dr. Carrie Harvey received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in 1992 from Belmont University, her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) in Acute Care in 1997 from Vanderbilt University and her PhD from UT Health Science Center in 2003. Her dissertation topic, which focused on noninvasive electrocardiographic markers for sudden cardiac death, was published in Biological Nursing Research under the title “Characterization of T Wave Alternans with Ambulatory Electrocardiography.” Her dissertation included coursework from the University of Memphis/UT Health Science Center joint Biomedical Engineering Program. Other research interests include 30-day hospital readmissions for patients with heart failure, remote CIED monitoring, and social determinants for heart failure and heart rhythm disorders. She has a faculty practice as an acute care nurse practitioner with UT Methodist Physicians Cardiac Electrophysiology Group and has been providing advanced practice care for this population for more than 20 years.
Dr. Harvey is a member of the Heart Rhythm Society Governance Committee, Allied Health Professionals Council, Section editor for Heart Rhythm 02 Journal, and founder of the HRS Allied Health Professional Publication Scholarship Fund. She is the Vice Chair for the HRS LEAP program and Co-Chair for the AHP Research 101 webinar series. She is active with the American Heart Association as a member of the Volunteer Science Panel: COVID-19 Outpatient Treatment Video Podcast Series and presented a podcast on COVID-19 Outpatient Treatment: COVID-19 and Cardiac Wellness for the HeartBEATS from Lifelong LearningTM series supported by a grant from Pfizer. She is also a member of the AHA Council on Cardiovascular Nursing and the Council on Lifestyle and Cardiometabolic Health. She is the immediate past Chair of the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses Research Committee and the current Chair of the Editorial Committee. She has presented nationally and internationally and is well published on topics related to CIEDs, remote cardiac monitoring, and arrhythmias.
Dr. Harvey is the immediate past Chair of the UT Health Science Center College of Nursing Faculty Organization and course leader for the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) courses: Epidemiology for Clinical Practice, DNP Project Implementation and Evaluation, DNP Project Seminar II, and AG-ACNP Advanced Clinical Management.
