Dr. Nakiesha L. Shepherd joined the University of Tennessee College Heath Science
Center (UTHSC) as an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing in January 2023.
Prior to joining UTHSC, she educated and mentored nursing students at the University
of Memphis Loewenberg College of Nursing for 10 years. As a committed faculty member
at UTHSC, she plans to continue developing and nurturing future nursing students across
the curriculum.
Dr. Shepherd received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2003) and Master of Nursing
Science with a concentration in nursing education (2010) from Samford University in
Birmingham, Alabama. In addition, she earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice with a concentration
in Adult-Gerontology Acute Care from UTHSC in 2018.
As an Adult Gerontology Acute Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Shepherd serves veterans in
the intensive care unit at the Lt. Col. Luke Weather, Jr. VA Medical Center in Memphis,
Tennessee, collaborating with interdisciplinary team members to deliver holistic,
evidence-based healthcare.
She is a member of the American Nurses Association, Tennessee Nurses Association,
and Sigma Theta Tau International Beta-Theta at Large Chapter.
Dr. Shepherd received the Daisy Faculty Award in 2016 and was nominated again in 2017.
In addition, she was nominated as the American Heart Association Woman of Impact in
2022.
