Pain in Aging and Dementia Program
The Pain in Aging and Dementia Research Program is led by Ronald Cowan, MD, PhD at UTHSC. This program is a collaborative program with Todd Monroe, PhD at the Ohio State University. The Cowan and Monroe labs have a longstanding collaboration in the areas of pain research in aging and dementia. Our research approaches include psychophysical and behavioral measures of pain processing, along with structural and functional neuroimaging of pain circuitry. Current research activities at UTHSC include an actively recruiting study of pain processing in people with advanced cancer who have Alzheimer’s Disease.
