Language Delay or Disorder
Language delays and disorders can occur without a known cause or they may become obvious after a significant medical problem. An individual with a language delay or disorder may have difficulty:
- understanding language (a receptive skill); and/or
- forming words, phrases, or sentences (an expressive skill)
Individuals with delayed or disordered language often respond well to evidence-based treatment by a Speech-Language Pathologist who has expertise in language development. UTHSC offers comprehensive evaluation and treatment services for children, adolescents, and adults with language delays or disorders, tailored to the individual needs of each patient. Therapy settings are primarily individual sessions.
