Residency Programs Accredited by the ACGME
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine - Chattanooga sponsors 10 residency programs as part of the University of Tennessee Statewide Network of Graduate Medical Education. All residency programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Neurology | 4 total years (1 year [PGY-1] as a Preliminary Medicine Resident at our institution and 3 years [PGY-2, PGY-3, and PGY-4] in our Neurology Residency. Must participate in the NRMP Main Match and commit to four total years at our campus) |
Obstetrics and Gynecology | 4 years (Must participate in the NRMP Main Match) |
Orthopaedic Surgery | 5 years (Must participate in the NRMP Main Match) |
Pediatrics | 3 years (Must participate in the NRMP Main Match) |
Plastic Surgery | 3 years (Must have completed at least a five-year General Surgery Residency prior to entering our Independent Plastic Surgery Residency. Must participate in the San Francisco Plastic Surgery Match) |
Surgery | 6 years (five clinical years and one research year. Must participate in the NRMP Main Match) |
Urology | 5 years including the PGY-1 level of training (Must participate in the AUA Urology Residency Match) |

Colon and Rectal Surgery | 1 year (Sponsored by the Department of Surgery -- Must have completed at least a 5-year Surgery Residency prior to entering our Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship and participate in the NRMP Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship Match) |
Emergency Medical Services | 1 year (Sponsored by the Department of Emergency Medicine -- Must have completed a three-year Emergency Medicine Residency prior to entering and participate in the NRMP Emergency Medicine Fellowship Match) |
Gastroenterology | 3 years (Sponsored by the Department of Medicine -- Must have completed a 3-year Internal Medicine Residency prior to entering and participate in the NRMP Medical Subspecialties Match.) |
Primary Care Sports Medicine | 1 year (Sponsored by the Departments of Family Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery -- Must have completed a 3-year Family Medicine Residency prior to entering and participate in the NRMP Sports Medicine Fellowship Match.) |
Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine | 3 years (Sponsored by the Department of Medicine -- Must have completed a 3-year Internal Medicine Residency prior to entering and participate in the NRMP Medical Specialty Fellowship Match). [Note: This program will begin recruiting in Summer 2024 with the first two Fellows beginning training in July 2025.] |
Surgical Critical Care | 1 year (Sponsored by the Department of Surgery -- Occurs six months into the 4th year of a Surgery Residency through the end of 6 months into the 5th year of our Surgery Residency. Must participate in the NRMP Surgical Fellowship Match.) |
Vascular Surgery | 2 years (Sponsored by the Department of Surgery -- Must have completed at least a 5-year Surgery Residency prior to entering our Vascular Surgery Fellowship. Must participate in the NRMP Vascular Surgery Fellowship Match.) |
