Shadowing Erlanger Employees
Erlanger has recently re-established its Job Shadowing Program so students can shadow Erlanger employees who (other than physicians). This is a separate program and is managed by Erlanger. Click on this link to download the Erlanger Shadowing Application. Job shadow opportunities at Erlanger with Erlanger employees are approved on a case-by-case basis. Erlanger will make every effort to accommodate you as it has space and staff available. Job shadow candidates must be sixteen or older; the hospital Emergency Departments, Surgery, and Intensive Care Units cannot accommodate students under the age of eighteen. To shadow at Children's Hospital at Erlanger, you must be 18 AND a high school graduate. Physicians cannot participate in observing or shadowing experiences with other physicians, and medical students already in the final two clinical years cannot participate in observation.
To qualify for job shadowing with Erlanger employees, you must:
- Complete the Erlanger Job Shadow application
- Provide documentation of MMR and Varicella (chicken pox) immunization
- Provide documentation of a negative TB skin test or negative chest x-ray within the last 12 months
- Provide Documentation of flu vaccine (October through March)
The job shadow application and required health records must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the desired start date to allow for coordinator and clinical department review. Records should be emailed to: jobshadowing@erlanger.org. Upon coordinator and departmental approval, you will be contacted to complete HIPPA training, code of conduct and the confidentiality agreement.
Job shadow candidates may not enter a clinical area until all paperwork is complete and an identification badge is issued.
