Terms and Conditions of Federal Student Loans
Terms and conditions of Federal Student Loans (Stafford and GradPLUS) are listed on the Master Promissory Note signed by a borrower accepting the loan.

Withdrawal From UTHSC / Return to Title IV Funds Policy
Federal Regulations mandate that students who receive federal financial aid, which may include Pell Grant, Supplemental Grant, ACG, Smart Grants, Subsidized Stafford loans, Unsubsidized Stafford Loans, Parent Plus Loans and Grad Plus Loans and withdraw from the university during the first 60% of the semester should be aware that a portion of these funds may have to be repaid. A student who remains enrolled and in attendance beyond the 60% point is considered to have earned all of their financial aid for the semester. This page has complete information.
Federal Student Financial Aid Penalties for Drug Law Violations
Federal law provides that a student who has been convicted of an offense under any federal or state law involving the possession or sale of a controlled substance during a period of enrollment for which the student was receiving financial aid shall not be eligible to receive any federal or institutional grant, loan, or work assistance during the period beginning on the date of such conviction and ending after the interval specified in the following table.
If convicted of an offense involving:
Possession of a Controlled Substance
- First Offense: Ineligibility Period of 1 Year
- Second Offense: Ineligibility Period of 2 years
- Third Offense: Indefinite Ineligibility Period
Sale of a Controlled Substance
- First Offense: Ineligibility Period of 2 years
- Second Offense: Indefinite Ineligibility Period
A student whose eligibility has been suspended based on a conviction for possession or sale of a controlled substance may resume eligibility before the end of the ineligibility period if:
- the student satisfactorily completes a drug rehabilitation program that:
- complies with the criteria prescribed in the federal regulations; and
- includes two unannounced drug tests;
- the student successfully passes two unannounced drug tests conducted by a drug rehabilitation program that complies with the criteria prescribed in the federal regulations; or
- the conviction is reversed, set aside, or otherwise rendered nugatory.
Code of Conduct for Financial Aid Professionals and Advisory Disclosure
The UTHSC Financial Aid Office is a member of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) and therefore adheres to NASFAA's Statement of Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct for Institutional Financial Aid Professionals.
The Office of Financial Aid discloses that currently no financial aid professional on staff is serving on a lender advisory board.
