By completing the FAFSA, UTHSC will determine how much Federal student loan funding can be awarded based on federal guidelines. In general, the amount of federal loan funding depends on a student's estimated financial contribution (EFC) as well as the student's dependency status. Both of these factors are determined by the Department of Education when the student submits their fafsa at studentaid.gov.The simple formula of Cost of Attendance minus EFC minus other resources (such as scholarships and grants) is used to determine student's financial need for federal loans. The cost of attendance information for a student can be found in our Cost of Attendance section. In general, a student who shows financial need can be awarded as much as the following in Federal Stafford Loan funding per year:
- Undergraduate 3rd/4th Year Dependent Student- $5500 Subsidized Stafford Loan, $2000 Unsubsidized Stafford Loan
