Application Process
Appointment to the postgraduate training program in Pediatric Surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is made through the NRMP (National Residency Match Program).
All information is to be submitted to the Division of Pediatric Surgery through the ERAS (Electronic Residency Application System).

Selection Criteria
The successful applicant must be scheduled to complete their general surgery training in a program accredited by the ACGME or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and be admissible to examination by the American Board of Surgery (or its equivalent), or be certified by that board. Our goal is to provide an outstanding educational opportunity to highly motivated individuals who have a demonstrated track record of academic and clinical excellence. Admission is without bias based on race, gender, age, or religion.
Application information includes the following criteria:
- Medical school transcripts
- Dean's letter
- Personal statement
- Three letters of recommendation (one of which must be from a pediatric surgeon)
- USMLE Scores Part 1 & 2 & 3
- ABSITE transcript
- Personal Interviews
Interviews are by invitation. Selected applicants will be provided with hotel information and potential interview dates.
Applications for the academic year beginning in 2024 will be accepted until December 15, 2022. We will interview applicants that will start in 2024.
Our Match Day is May 3, 2023.
