Deans, MD, MHSc, Chief Clinical Research Office at Nationwide Children's Hospital, Professor of Surgery at The Ohio State University joined the department as a Pediatric Surgery Visiting Professor. She gave a lecture on the topic, "Patient-Centered Academic Health Care: A Model for Improved Integration of Research and Clinical Care."

The Department of Surgery welcomed Odette Harris, MD, MPH, Director of Brain Injury, Professor of Neurosurgery, Vice Chair, Diversity at Stanford University School of Medicine and Deputy Chief of Staff, Rehabilitation Director, Defense Veterans Brain Injury Center at VHA Palto Alto, Calif., as the AWS Grands Round Visiting Professor. She lectured on the topic, An Astronaut and a Neurosurgeon: How Key Decisions and Mentors Shape our Journeys.”

The Department of Surgery welcomed Clifford Y. Ko, MD, Director, Division of Research and Optimal Patient Care American College of Surgeons, Professor of Surgery and Health Services David Geffen School of Medicine, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) as the 2019 Harwell Wilson Surgical Society Distinguished Visiting Professor. He lectured on the topic, Achieving Surgical Quality: Observations from the American College of Surgeons.”
In late April, Kevin Stavely-O'Carroll, MD, MBA, PhD, Hugh E. Stephenson Chair of Surgery, director of Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, Department of Surgery at the University of Missouri joined the Department of Surgery as a Distinguished Visiting Professor. He lectured on the topic, “Leadership, Academic Commitment, and Value: Pillars of an Academic Surgical Department.”
In April, the Department of Surgery welcomed Selwyn Vickers, MD, FACS, James C. Lee, Jr., endowed chair, senior vice president of Medicine, dean, School of Medicine University of Alabama at Birmingham, as our AΩA Distinguished Visiting Professor. He lectured on the topic, "Strategies and Novel Strategies for a Lethal Tumor: Pancreatic Cancer."
In March, the Global Surgery Institute, in partnership with the Department of Surgery, welcomed Fiemu Nwariaku, MD, associate dean, Global Health, Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, Malcolm O. Perry, MD professorship in surgery. He lectured on the topics, "Injury: A Global Health Epidemic" and "The Impact of the Global Health Mindset."

In February, the Department of Surgery welcomed Amy J. Goldberg, MD, FACS, professor and chair, Department of Surgery, Lewis Katz School of Medicine from Temple University and surgeon-in-chief at the Temple University Health System as the 2019 AWS Visiting Professor. Dr. Goldberg lectured on the topic, " What Bullets Do To Bodies."

In November, the Department of Surgery welcomed David A. Kooby, MD, FACS, professor of surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology from Emory University School of Medicine as the 9th Annual Kosten Distinguished Visiting Professor in Pancreatic Cancer Research and Care. He lectured on the topic, "Minimally Invasive Pancreatic Resection: A Journey of Patient Care, Research, and International Collaboration".
In May 2018, UTHSC welcomed two visiting professors, Alessandro Fichera, MD, professor and chief, Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
In May 2018, the Department of Surgery welcomed R. Lawrence (Larry) Moss, MD, professor at the Ohio State University and surgeon-in-chief at Nationwide Children's Hospital.
In June of 2018, the Department of Surgery welcomed Timothy J. Eberlein, MD, Bixby Professor of Surgery, chairman, Department of Surgery, at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis as the 2018 Harwell Wilson Visiting Distinguished Professor. He lectured on the topic, “Creating an Environment of Success: The Department of Surgery of the Future."
