About
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center launched the Center for Addiction Science in 2016. It was named the first Center of Excellence in Addiction Medicine in the country by the Addiction Medicine Foundation, now the American College of Academic Addiction Medicine.
Mission
The mission of the UT Health Science Center, Center for Addiction Science (UT CAS) aligns strongly with that of the UT Health Science Center College of Medicine, in which it is based. The clinical mission of the UT CAS is to provide high quality, integrated, compassionate, and personalized care to individuals struggling with addictive disorders. The research mission of the UT CAS is to continually advance our understanding of the neural and behavioral mechanisms that underly the develop and maintenance of addictive conditions, with the goal of translating research findings into new patient care approaches. The education and training mission of the UT CAS is to train a compassionate and highly skilled physician and allied-health workforce to serve the needs of those individuals struggling with addiction, their families, and loved ones.
Vision
The vision of the UT Health Science Center Center for Addiciton Science is to deliver
respectful, compassionate, patient-centered, evidence-based, and comprehensive care
to patients with substance use disorder.
