UTHSC MPower will include four houses
- Crawford House-Dr. Alvin Crawford, the first African American graduate of UTHSC College of Medicine (M.D. 1964)
- Conyers York House-Dr. Sara Conyers York, first woman graduate of UTHSC College of Medicine (M.D. 1913)
- Seddon House-Dr. Rhea Seddon, selected as the first astronaut surgeon in space (1973 UTHSC College of Medicine)
- Diggs House-Lemuel W. Diggs, established country’s first comprehensive research center on sickle cell disease at UT-Memphis in 1971.
Faculty Advisors
- Assist the Office of Student Affairs with large group sessions throughout the year.
- Faculty Advisors will include faculty from various specialty interest areas and be available to students as an additional faculty resource/mentor within the learning community. Each house will include a research faculty member as a faculty advisor.
Faculty Mentors
- Faculty Mentors should act as a point of contact for academic, career, and research advisors OR act as conduits to the appropriate advisors.
- Faculty Mentors will meet with cohort of students at least twice a semester in a social setting.
- Faculty Mentors will meet one on one with cohort of students once during the academic year to discuss adapting to the rigors of medical school, balancing school and home life, as well as academic and career advisement.
M1 Students
- Develop supportive relationships through faculty engagement to enhance academic success in a supportive team environment driven by an interactive discussion format.
- Attend four large group meetings sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs throughout the year focusing on various topics of interest.
Peer Advisors (M2-M4 Students and Residents)
- M2 Peer Advisors will serve as a liaison to the faculty mentors, assist in scheduling at least four social outings throughout the year, and attend large group meetings with the M1 students.
- M3-M4 Peer Advisors and Residents will create and lead four peer-to-peer sessions for the M1 and M2 students throughout the year. The M3-M4 Peer Advisors will determine topics and dates for sessions and the Office of Student Affairs will assist with marketing/logistics as needed.
Staff Support - Office of Student Affairs
- Lead workshops for large group sessions.
- Provide students with career counseling and offer support for all students.
