Certificate in Clinical and Translational Pharmacy

About the Program

Our non-degree graduate Certificate Program in Clinical and Translational Pharmacy, offered through the UT Health Science Center College of Pharmacy, provides education in applied research focused on clinical and translational science within pharmacy. This one-year, 12-credit, fully asynchronous online program delivers foundational training and skill development for pharmacy and other healthcare professionals. The curriculum emphasizes the population-level effects of health policies, systems, and interventions on health outcomes, focusing on therapeutic outcomes from medication use.

Who are the intended enrollees?

This program is developed for pharmacists and other healthcare professionals interested in enhancing their knowledge and skills in clinical and translational research related to pharmacy and other healthcare fields.

What are the admission criteria?

Individuals are required to have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in the United States or its equivalent. Applicants must submit a short personal statement, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, and may be invited for a virtual interview. International students from non-English-speaking backgrounds must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or another equivalent test.

What courses are included?

The certificate training includes the following courses:

Fall Semester

  • Data analysis methods in Health Outcomes and Policy Research (3 credit hours) – Junling Wang, PhD 
  • Health Policy in Pharmacy (3 credit hours) – Minghui “Sam” Li, PhD 

Spring Semester

Select two from the following three courses:
  • Health Behavior and Qualitative Research in Pharmacy: Study Design and Analysis (3 credit hours) – Alina Cernasev, PharmD, PhD
  • Epidemiology in Pharmacy (3 credit hours) – Shaun Rowe, PharmD, MS 
  • Introduction to Health and Pharmaceutical Economics (3 credit hours) – Justin Gatwood, PhD

These courses are taught by faculty members affiliated with the College of Pharmacy. A student can expect to complete the program in two semesters if the recommended schedule is followed. To receive the certificate in Clinical and Translational Pharmacy, a student must achieve a GPA of at least 3.0.

How much does it cost?

The current rates are $4134 (in-state) or $6105 (out-of-state) per semester (six credit hours). Students may take less than six credit hours and would pay based on credit hours.
