Sponsored Projects
The Office of Sponsored Projects Accounting, a division of the Department of Finance and Operations, interacts with faculty and staff who have received external funding from federal, private, state and local sponsors.
Mission
Sponsored Projects Accounting (SPA) is responsible for maintaining accounting control over all University restricted accounts, including the post-award administration of sponsored activities and monitoring gift and/or discretionary funded accounts. Sponsored Projects Accounting serves as an information source for the campus community and external agencies.
Services
The primary services provided by Sponsored Projects Accounting include the following:
- Establish restricted WBS Elements for sponsored projects and gift accounts.
- Generate accurate and timely financial reports/invoices for federal, state, and local sponsored activities.
- Enter restricted budgets for restricted WBS Elements and process campus notifications.
- Prepare deposit transactions for funds received to support sponsored activities.
- Process cash requests to fund letter-of-credit accounts.
- Monitor restricted account deficit balances and assist in their resolution.
- Provide information relative to allowable costs within the guidelines of various sponsors.
- Serve as campus liaison for the Faculty and Staff Effort Certification System, including the provision of monthly training.
- Provide monthly training for campus personnel relative grant and contract reporting.
